Google launches Android set-top boxes

Google launches its long-awaited Android set-top boxes that allow users to surf the internet, play games and watch videos on TV. The product is the result of a joint cooperation with Japanese manufacturer Sony and uses Google's Android technology.
The set is retailed at £200-£300 in UK stores.
The 'smart TV' market is seen as an emerging field that has not been transformed by the internet yet and therefore still has a high developing potential for companies such as Apple and Google, who are predicted to make increasing efforts to join traditional players such as Samsung, Sony and LG.
In its latest move on the UK market, Google launched an initiative to map the English and Welsh waterways and add them to its Google Maps database.
