The European Commission publishes a monitoring report on law enforcement and organised crime and corruption in the two newcomers to the EU, Bulgaria and Romania.
The report is of great importance to Bulgaria and will reveal whether the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), which was implemented after Bulgaria was accepted to the EU in order to help it establish an independent, effective and impartial judicial system, will be prolonged in 2013.
The Bulgarian Ombudsman has expressed fears that the report will not be flattering to the country and will instead emphasize Bulgaria's lack of success in limiting corruption, reducing organised crime and restructuring its courts.
