According to Carlos Fabra, president of Aeroca, the company that promotes the Castellon airport, the airport is the most important infrastructure to be brought to the province, which the airport is named after.

The airport was officially opened in 2011 without the government's approval while no company had signed up to use it. The total costs of building the airport amount to at least €150 million.
Castellon is a province located in the northern part of the autonomous Valencian community, on the Easten Coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
