Peña Nieto inaugurated as Mexico's President

Following a ruling by Mexico's highest electoral court, dismissing the challenge to the outcome of the July 1 presidential elections, Enrique Peña Nieto assumes the office of President of Mexico.
In light of Peña Nieto's electoral victory, runner-up Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador accused his rival of having rigged the elections and challenged the outcome. Scores of Mexicans supported Lopez Obrador's plea and took to the streets in protest.
According to a Mexican court, however, Lopez Obrador could not produce enough evidence to support his claims.
Peña Nieto is a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), that ruled Mexico for seventy one years before the outgoing President Felipe Calderon was elected in 2006. In the speech following his election, Nieto thanked voters for giving PRI another chance but promised a "new way of governing".
Nieto also pledged to enhance the country's economy and intensify the war on drugs during his campaign.
"There will be no pact nor truce with organised crime," he said.
