US demands disclosures from companies investing in Myanmar

Companies interested in investing in Myanmar are required to make disclosures about their dealings, as the United States eases economic sanctions and allows companies to invest and provide financial services in the country.
In recent years the Southeast Asian country has emerged from under nearly half a century of authoritarian military rule and is now taking steps towards establishing a democratic regime. Nevertheless, according to the watchdog monitoring corporate and political corruption worldwide, Transparency International, the country is still considered to be one of the world's most corrupt countries.
The lifting of the sanctions could prompt many US companies to invest in Myanmar, a country with the population of 56 million people which has been closed off from the global market. Coca-Cola, for example, has already expressed its interest to invest in Myanmar, currently one of the only three remaining territories where the company has not yet been introduced to, alongside Cuba and North Korea.
