UNESCO examines Iran's carpet washing ritual for registration on the organization's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during its 7th meeting.
Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization sent the request for registration to UNESCO.
The traditional ritual is held to commemorate the funeral of Imamzadeh Soltan Ali, who was a descendant of Imam Muhammed Bagir, in 732 Common Era.

The traditional ritual is held to commemorate the funeral of Imamzadeh Soltan Ali, who was a descendant of Imam Muhammed Bagir, in 732 Common Era.
Every year on the second Friday of the fall, a large carpet is wrapped in green textile and delivered to young men whirling sticks in the air in the city of Fin and the village of Khayeh. Thousands of people attend the special ceremony.
