Three members of Russian punk band called Pussy Riot remain in custody, following the court ruling on July 20.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Mariya Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich are charged with hooliganism for performing a song intended to protest against Vladimir Putin in the run-up to Russia's presidential elections in Moscow's main Orthodox church, the Christ the Saviour Cathedral.
The Orthodox church has accused the three band members of "a malicious, carefully planned act to denigrate the feelings and beliefs of the many Orthodox Christian worshipers and to belittle the state's spiritual foundation".
It demands prosecution, even though thousands of faithful have signed a petition for the band to be forgiven and more than hundred prominent Russian celebrities have urged authorities to release the detainees.
