American sweetheart Mariah Carey gets to show off her tougher side as a judge on the new season of American Idol.
Carey, 42, replaces Aerosmith's lead singer Steven Tyler and fellow Latin diva Jennifer Lopez, who left the show in May 2012 and is joining her manager Randy Jackson on the judging panel.
The 'All I want for Christmas' singer is supposed to receive $18 million (£11.5m) for her one-year contract and has the opportunity to renew it.
Mariah has to fill the shoes of former celebrity judges Paula Abdul, Ellen DeGeneress and Kara DioGuiardi.
