The UN Special Rapporteur Tomas Ojea Quintana visits Myanmar following the invitation of the country's government.
The UN expert on human rights in Myanmar will meet government officials, politicians, the National Human Rights Commission and civil society. He also requested to visit Rakhine and Kachin state, which have been struggling with recent violence and ongoing armed conflict.
Quintana said that there had been "significant progress on reforms (in Myanmar), which I hope will culminate in the creation of a peaceful and vibrant democracy that respects human rights and upholds the rule of law".
