UN Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea's mandate is extended

The UN Monitoring Group's mandate in Somalia and Eritrea is extended. The one-year extension was announced by the UN Security Council on July 25.
The UN panel of experts in the two African states will continue monitoring compliance with the embargoes on the delivery of weapons and military equipment. It will also investigate all activities that could potentially violate the arms embargoes.
The UN council decided in July 2012 that the embargo should not apply to military supplies used by the UN Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), nor to protective clothing temporarily exported to Eritrea by UN personnel for the personal use of media representatives, and humanitarian workers and personnel.
In addition, a Joint Financial Management Board will be set up to improve Somalia's financial management due to UN reports on corruption and misappropriation of funds in the country.
