UK drug pricing negotiations start

The British Department of Health (DH) and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) start negotiations on the implementation of a value-based pricing (VBP) system.
The talks are expected to see the sides discuss on how the VBP will work as well as revise the existing Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS), which is set to expire at the end of 2013.
The main proposal on the table for post 2013 PPRS is that a VBP system, which offers a broader assessment of a product’s worth, will be used to determine prices for newly launched medicines, whereas an updated version of the PPRS will be used to price branded drugs already available in the UK market.
