Paintings and photographs from nineteenth century naturalist and artist Roger Tory Peterson's Field Guides series are auctioned by Guernsey's Auctioneer.
Hundreds of original items that were used to illustrate Peterson's system of bird identification, have been made available by his estate to bird lovers.
The American ornithologist, who died in 1996, has been considered one of the founding inspirations for the twentieth century environmental movement.
Spending a lifetime watching, painting and photographing birds in the wild, Peterson is often compared to nineteenth century ornithologist John James Aubudon.
The Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History hopes some buyers will also donate their purchases.
