Pakistan Peoples Party – Sherpao (PPP-S) chairman and former interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao travels to Sibi to appears before the court in the murder case of Baloch chieftain Nawab Akbar Bugti.
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted a special 24-day transit bail to Sherpao, after Sibi Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Nawaz Khan Barakzai had issued arrest warrants against him and those accused for allegedly killing Bugti, during a hearing in the case on July 18. The arrest warrants for the suspects include former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, and former Balochistan Governor Awais Ahmed Ghani.
Akbar Khan Bugti was the head of the Bugru tribe of Baloch and served as Minister of State for Interior and Governor of Balochistan province in Western Pakistan. On August 26, 2006, he was killed in his cave in Kohlu, where he was hiding since 2004, when a wave of armed struggle, considered to be led by Bugti, started in Balochistan.
