France chairs UN Security Council meeting on Syria -

France presides over a ministerial-level meeting of UN Security Council members. The meeting will focus on the humanitarian situation in Syria and its neighboring countries.


According to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting's main purpose is to show support for the people of Syria and demonstrate the international concern over the region's stability. 


France assumed the Security Council's monthly-rotating presidency on August 1, 2012.
