The new Romanian justice minister Mona Pivniceru is sworn in, following a cabinet reshuffle in response to the impeachment bid against president Traian Basescu early July.
Former justice minister Titus Corlăţean was also moved and will now head the foreign ministry.
On July 29, Romania held an impeachment vote against its president which failed to meet the minimum turnout required to back Basescu's ousting. The low turnout made it necessary for the Constitutional Court to rule on the vote's validity with Prime Minister Victor Ponta contesting the accuracy of the electoral registers.
Both the IMF and the EU have expressed their concern over the political crisis in the country.
The EU has been keeping an eye on Romania's justice system which, should Romania hope to join the Schengen area and to become eligible for IMF loans, is in need of thorough reform after decades of dictatorial rule.
