Greek President may testify in Karadzic trial

Greek President Karolos Papoulias testifies in the trial of Radovan Karadzic, former leader of Serbs in Bosnia who is suspected of committing war crimes during the Bosnian War. Papoulias was asked to testify by Radovan Karadzic's defence.
Karolos Papoulias served as Greece's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1996. Karadzic has claimed that there are good reasons to believe President Papoulias has information that supports his side. According to Karadzic, the close historical ties between Serbia and Greece explain the Serbs' and Karadzic's trust in President Papoulias.
Karadzic is accused of initiating the Siege of Sarajevo, ordering the Srebrenica Massacre and taking UN staff members hostage.
