The trial was originally to be held in September 2012, but was postponed by five months to include any relevant testimony obtained by the interrogation of Libya's former spy chief who was arrested the same month.
"We were ready to try Saif al-Islam this month but after bringing back Senussi to Libya, new information will come to light which will delay the trial for at least five months," Milad al-Zintani, lawyer at the prosecutor general's office, explained following the delay.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has maintained that Libya is not ready to give al-Islam Gaddafi, who stands charges of war crimes, a fair trial. Libya, however, has insisted that it is capable of carrying out a proper trial for the son of former Libyan autocratic leader Muammar Gaddafi who was ousted and subsequently killed in October 2011.
