Parliamentary elections are held in Cuba. Over eight million Cubans will elect 612 parliament deputies and 1 269 delegates to provincial governments for a five-year term by means of free, secret and direct vote.


In Cuba, political parties are not allowed to campaign during elections. Instead, their photos and biographical profiles are being published in public areas and on provincial newspapers. All candidates must have the approval of the Cuban Communist Party (Partido Comunista de Cuba) to appear on the ballot. All citizens 16 years of age and older, resident for at least two years in Cuba, can vote. 


Following the election, the chosen deputies will have 45 days to meet at a place and time decided by the Cuban Council of State in order to set up the National Assembly of People’s Power (Cuban Parliament).
