US builds new missile defence shield in Asia

The US plans to build a new missile defence shield in Asia in an effort to contain possible threats from North Korea and keep up to speed with China's military development.
The shield will consist of an early-radar system, known as an X-band, in southern Japan and possibly another one in South East Asia.
The announcement was made a month after China tested an intercontinental ballistic mistile with the range to strike the United States. According to reports, the Pentagon is also worried about China's new anti-ship missile that could strike its US Pacific fleet.
Despite the looming Chinese menace, a Pentagon spokesman has confessed that North Korea is the "immediate threat" that drives their "missile defence decision making".
