Fast-food chain McDonald's opens its first restaurant east of the Ural mountains. The US chain is also looking into opening restaurants in Siberia's Novosibirsk, Barnaul, Tomsk and Novokuznetsk.


McDonald's opened its first Russian branch in January 1990 near Moscow's Pushkin Square but is now looking to expand to Siberia and the Urals. McDonald's competitors KFC and Subway already have restaurants in Siberia and the Far East.
