New tennis penalty for time violation comes into force Tuesday 1 January 2013 Worldwide

The change in the time violation penalty in tennis, as approved in September by the ATP Board of Directors, is implemented.
The new rule means that a time violation of 25 seconds between points will be penalized with an initial warning. A second violation will result in a fault for the server and a point penalty for the receiver.
Previously, a time violation only led to a warning in the first instance and a point penalty for both the server and the receiver for the second violation.
“We believe this modification will give officials a useful tool and allow for more consistent enforcement of the current time violation rule”, said the ATP after approving the new norm.
The new rule is valid in the ATP World Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour.
