The nominations for the 85th Annual Academy Awards are announced five days earlier than initially scheduled. This also means they are presented before the Golden Globes awards telecast.
The reason for the shift is to give the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences more time to see all of the nominated films before the final deadline.
For the first time in history, the Academy will also allow its members to vote electronically. The move marks the Academy’s ongoing shift into the digital era.
The Oscars ceremony will still be held on February 24 and will be telecast from Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
