According to foreign ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouvras, the Greek government plans to sell off several of its overseas properties in an attempt to relieve part of its €19 billion debt by 2015.
Delavekouvras also said a list of assets will be drawn up and the ministry will investigate market conditions before buyers come into the picture. Nonetheless, rumours are the Greek consul's home in West London could be on the list of properties to be sold.
The plans have sparked a wave of protest on home soil from leftist opponents who argue the government is selling off the "family silver" for deplorable prices in times of economic depression.
