Egypt launches an international bid round for its third metro extension.
In September 2012, the EU and France signed a 940 million euro agreement with the Egyptian government to fund the project.
With the deal, the French Development Agency (AFD) fulfills almost half of the French commitments to Egypt as allocated during the Deauville Summit in 2011 to support the Arab Spring.
Cairo's metro system, two lines of which have already been financially and technically supported by France, has helped lessen the city's notorious traffic congestion.
The implementation of the project is expected to take eight years.
