Ukraine to raise import tariffs on goods

Ukraine plans to introduce a range of protectionist measures by raising tariffs on over 350 goods.
The tariffs affect $4.6 billion worth of imports and products ranging from cars, trucks, agricultural machinery, meat, flowers, fruit, vegetables, syringes and washing machines.
US ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Michael Punke expressed his concern "about the systematic implications of what Ukraine is contemplating".
According to Article 28 of the WTO General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, Ukraine is entitled to increase its tariffs, but the rule has rarely been used and never for so many goods at the same time.
