Norway extends parental leave for dads

|
Norway extends the length of parental leave reserved for fathers to fourteen weeks. The total period that can be claimed by both parents on full pay extends thus from forty seven to forty nine weeks.
The move was officially presented as part of the Norwegian government's 2013 budget proposal on October 8, 2012.
Under the new law, the weeks reserved for a father of a child, have to be claimed by the father otherwise they will be lost. The purpose of the measure is to increase fathers' involvement in child rearing as well as to bridge the gender gap in the workplace.
Norway's parental leave system is one of the world's most generous.
