The region is separated from Iraq by an internal border and has been involved in a dispute with the central government in Baghdad over the control of oil, despite the fact that it receives part of the oil revenue obtained at a national level.
Currently Kurdistan exports oil to the Ceyhan port, located in southern Turkey in the province of Adana, via a pipeline controlled by the Baghdad government. By August 2013, the authorities in Kurdistan are planning to be able to export oil to Turkey via a new pipeline.
