The finals of the Sumo wrestling Grand Tournament are held, after a year of matches in different places. The finals of tournament last for fifteen days, and the overall winner receives the Emperor's Cup.
Sumo is a Japanese wrestling sport in which two competing players try to push each other out of the ring, or force them to touch the ground with anything other than their feet. Sumo is nowadays classified as a modern martial art, although the sport has ancient roots in Shinto religion 1,500 years ago.
The professional Sumo wrestlers, of which there are hundreds, live and train in special stables, strictly according to the rules of the Japan Sumo Association. There are also amateur Sumo clubs in several countries. Some 87 countries have joined an International Sumo Federation, begun in 1983, which aims to make Sumo an Olympic sport.
The organizers advise that "there is the danger of suffering injuries due to falls from the ring by wrestlers and other participants". Admission to seats in the sports stadium is therefore denied to "persons unable to respond to such situations (children, physically disabled individuals, etc.)."
