Mark Cavendish is to join the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team, the website skysports.com has revealed. 


The British cyclist and 2011 world champion has decided to leave the Sky Team before completing the two years remaining before the end of his three-year contract with the British team. Cavendish's decision was motivated by the desire to pursue his race goals in the 2013 edition of Tour de France instead of joining the efforts to defend Bradley Wiggins' title previously expressed by his former team. 


The new three-year long contract allows Cavendish to go back to using Specialized bicycles, a piece of equipment he has expressed his affinity for.
