Trial of Turkish pianist Fazil Say resumes

The trial of renowned Turkish pianist Fazil Say, who was charged with inciting hatred and insulting the values of Islam, resumes after it was adjourned on October 18.
Say, who has played with the New York Philharmonic as well as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and has served as a cultural ambassador for the EU, is being prosecuted over tweets he wrote, allegedly mocking radical Muslims.
"I am not sure if you have also realised it, but if there's a louse, a non-entity, a lowlife, a thief or a fool, it's always an Islamist," said one of the musician's tweets.
Say, who has played with the New York Philharmonic as well as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and has served as a cultural ambassador for the EU, is being prosecuted over tweets he wrote, allegedly mocking radical Muslims.

The pianist, who faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison, also claimed in his tweets that he was an atheist and criticized Turkey's Islamic-conservative AKP government.
The case has reignited concerns about religious influence in Turkey.
