British lyricist Sir Tim Rice's first show in ten years opens in London's West End.
A musical adaptation of the 1951 novel and 1953 Oscar-winning film From Here to Eternity will play at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The storyline evolves around love affairs of US soldier stationed in Hawaii in the run up to the Pearl Harbour bombing.
"This is great - two love stories unfolding with the threat of war hovering, in the wonderful setting of Hawaii, which is part incredibly beautiful and glamorous, and part very basic and stark with the barracks, and these guys cooped up and occasionally delving into the fleshpots of Honolulu," the author commented on the show.
Rice, who is best known for his cooperation with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber on shows such as Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar, created the musical in conjunction with composer Stuart Brayson.
