'Nowruz', "New Day" in Persian, is the name of the Iranian New Year; it marks the beginning of the corresponding traditional celebrations in Iranian calendars.
Besides the beginning of the year, it also marks the first day of spring. It is celebrated by the different Iranian peoples and the related cultural continent.
Such celebrations have also spread to many other parts of the world, including parts of Central Asia, South Asia, Northwestern China, the Crimea and some groups in the Balkans.
In 2009, Norwuz was registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
