Arms dealer Tappin is sentenced

A sentence is delivered in the case of retired British businessman Christopher Tappin, who was accused of selling parts for surface-to-air missiles to Iran.
Tappin's trial was set to begin on November 5. It was, however, cancelled after the defendant entered a guilty plea after reaching a deal with prosecutors on October 26.
The plea calls for a 33-month sentence. Prosecutors are not expected to oppose Tappin serving his sentence in the UK.
The defendant has always denied trying to sell batteries for missiles to Iran, claiming he was the victim of an FBI sting. Before changing his plea, the arms dealer had faced up to 35 years in jail.
Tappin was arrested in the UK in 2010 and fought a lengthy battle against extradition, which he eventually lost in February 2012 and was deported to the US.
