The Philarmonia Orchestra performs works by Mendelssohn, Dvořák and Brahms to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Philharmonic Society.
The three composers have been associated with the society since it was founded in 1813. In that same year, a group of musicians met to form a society "To promote the performance in the most perfect manner possible, of the best ... instrumental music, and to encourage an appreciation by the public in the art of music".
During its lifetime, the society commissioned works from legendary composers such as Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Wagner.
To celebrate its bicentenary, the society will stage several concerts across the country as well as two special performances at the Derry-Londonderry City of Culture festival and BBC Proms.
