|
The European Central Bank (ECB) unveils the new five-euro banknote. The notes will go into circulation starting May.
The launch is part of an initiative to update and replace all euro banknotes over a period of several years. The new 'Europa' series will feature an image of the Greek mythical figure Europa in the notes' watermark and hologram.
Though the 5,10,20,50,100,200 and 500 euro notes will feature the same colours as their predecessors, it is said they will be easily distinguishable from their older versions.
According to the ECB, the banknotes of the first series will retain their value and can be exchanged at national banks for an indefinite period.
