Intel CEO Paul Otellini retires from his position after 40 years of service.
The fifth executive in the company's history was the driving force behind its growth in the x86 field and is said to have played a key role in Apple's transition to Intel.
"I've been privileged to lead one of the world's greatest companies", Otellini said following the announcement of his retirement in November 2012. "After almost four decades with the company and eight years as CEO, it's time to move on and transfer Intel's helm to a new generation of leadership".
The chip maker has not announced who is to succeed Otellini upon his retirement.
