General Motors becomes the first car manufacturer to incorporate Apple's Siri software, an application of the company's iOS mobile operating system.
Siri, a feature included in all Apple products, serves as a hands-free personal assistant and uses a natural language user interface to deduce questions and commands. With Siri, users can create messages and reminders, make phone calls and searches and set alarms simply by voicing their instructions.
Experts say the tendency to multi-task whilst driving can be made less dangerous with the hands-and-eyes-free option in modern automobiles.
GM is the first to include the feature in their vehicles, starting with the Chevrolet Spark and the Sonic LTZ and RS models.
Other car manufacturers with plans to incorporate Siri in the near future include BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover, Jaguar, Audi, Toyota, Chrysler and Honda.
