Palestinian President Abbas likely to visit Gaza

|
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to visit the Gaza Strip, following the upgrade of the Palestinian Territory to a non-member observer state at the UN General Assembly vote.
The visit, which is the first Abbas has made since Hamas seized control over the territory in the summer of 2007, is aimed at resolving the dispute between Hamas and his Fatah faction.
Talks will be focussed on the possibility of establishing a Fatah-Hamas unity government, according to PLO Executive Committee member Zakariya Al-Agha.
The announcement was made shortly before the PLO Chairman asked the General Assembly to vote in favour of raising the Palestinian status.
