The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission arrives in Ukraine to hold talks on a new loan programme as the previous one is about to expire.

"The term of our cooperation program with the IMF is coming to an end. A mission of the IMF will come to Ukraine on December 6," Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a press conference in Oslo on November 30.

According to Max Alier, the IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine, Christopher Jarvis will head the mission to start talks on a new stand-by arrangement.

In 2010, the IMF granted a new multi-billion dollar loan package to Ukraine, but the package was frozen after an unfavourable economic review.

In 2013, Ukraine will have to pay $6.43 billion (including $2.91 billion by the government and $3.52 billion by the NBU) to the IMF.

The IMF and Ukraine held talks in October over financial reforms and soaring natural gas prices, as the country had reached no agreement with Russia to reduce the prices.
