Egyptian President makes first visit to US

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is set to visit the US for the first time, according to a presidential spokesperson.
At the time of the announcement the spokesperson refused to reveal any other details concerning the visit.
The US gives Egypt about $1.3 billion a year in
military aid to support the peace treaty Egypt
signed with Israel in 1979.
Morsi has said he will honour Egypt's treaty obligations,
despite calls from his own party, the Muslim Brotherhood, to review the pact with Israel.
Former President Hosni Mubarak, who was a close US ally, upheld the treaty for 30 years until he was overthrown in a popular revolt in February 2011.
After keeping quiet about the uprising in Egypt, Washington opened formal talks with Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood in 2011 when the group emerged as a major player in post Arab Spring Egypt. Since then the sides have cooperated on several issues, among which the ceasefire after violence broke out between Israel and the Gaza Strip in November 2012.
