Following an agreement sealed by the main publishers in the country, Belgian citizens must start paying for online news from the main news websites in the country.

Key publishers in Belgium agreed to implement a single registration and paying system, called Media ID.

Media ID allows Belgians create profiles that can be used on all news websites. The system makes it easy for users to pay for news articles in a form that resembles Apple's successful iTunes.

The publishers that will be part of Media ID include De Persgroep, Corelio, Mediafin, IPM and Rossel.
