Massachusetts Senator and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry replaces Hillary Clinton in the post of US Secretary of State.
President Barack Obama nominated Kerry for the top diplomatic position on December 21, 2012. The Senate confirmed the politician as the new Secretary of State on January 29.
During the confirmation hearing on January 24, the five-term US senator and Vietnam War veteran took up a firm stance on issues concerning Iran and the economy. He stated that the "first priority" in protecting his credibility as a diplomat was to boost his country's ability to get its fiscal house in order.
