The world's first International Water Summit brings together politicians, civil servants, scientists and businesspeople to discuss challenges in water supply and the management of waste water in arid regions.
The Emirates which host the conference set a good example of what can be done in such regions, but organizers note the country's water production is very expensive - more than 70% of the costs consist of energy costs involved in desalinating, storing, transporting and distributing water.
Topics discussed at the summit include water security, future projections of water needs, technological innovations in supplying water more efficiently, and the linkages between the water supply and the energy supply.
