General Motors is expected to start mailing owners of Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pick-up trucks, model year 2010 to 2012, following the announcement of plans to recall the vehicles due to a missing secondary hood-latch.
A total of 145,628 pick-up trucks could be potentially dangerous due to the missing element, whose purpose is to stop the hood from opening in case the primary hood-latch is not engaged. An open hood can block the drivers' view and increase the risk of an accident.
Although there have been no reports of crashes or injuries, the company has announced that there are four known cases of a missing secondary hood-latch in those model vehicles.
Owners will be instructed to search their trucks for the presence of a secondary hood-latch, or take their vehicles to an auto-dealer who can perform the inspection.
Of the vehicles affected by the recall, the majority, 118,800, is found in the US. Another 15,264 are in Canada, whilst 7,492 are in Mexico.
