Lufthansa, United Airlines and Air Canada, otherwise known as the Star Alliance airlines, are expected to implement several measures to ease the EU Commission's anti-trust concerns.
The transatlantic cooperation deal between the three airlines has upset their competitors, who called for the EU Commission to assess the effect of the Alliance on the market. The Commission has determined that the airlines' cooperation involves funneling passengers into each other's networks, joint route planning, price setting and revenue sharing.
The concessions proposed by the three airlines include making landing and take-off slots available for their competitors on the Frankfurt-New York route. In addition, they are willing to negotiate with competitors on fare compatibility. According to the Commission, "these agreements would enable competitors to offer tickets on the parties' flights and facilitate access to connecting traffic."
