Egypt may hold its first democratic parliamentary elections some months later than planned, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi stated on March 27. 

Morsi announced the delay claiming the approval of a new election law could take several months.

His statement came ahead of the court ruling on appeals against the suspension of the election.

The appeals came after the court suspended the election, despite plans to hold it following the approval of the new draft constitution in the December 2012 national referendum and ratification of new electoral law in late February.

The Supreme Administrative Court decided to postpone the elections indefinitely, ordering that the election law would be sent to the Supreme Constitutional Court for review.

The parliamentary election in the country deeply divided between President Mohamed Morsi's Islamist supporters and liberal-led opposition should take place in four regional stages because of a shortage of poll supervisors.
