Idaho Sen. Crapo faces drunk driving charges

Idaho Senator Michael Crapo is set to appear in court over driving the influence charges. The charges were filed after Crapo was arrested on December 23 following failed
field sobriety tests.
The Republican Senator was pulled over after his vehicle ran a red light in Alexandria, Virginia. After failing the tests he was arrested at 12:45 a.m and moved to the Alexandria jail, where he was released from on an unsecured $1,000 bond at about five in the morning.
"There was no refusal (to take blood alcohol tests), no accident, no injuries," Police spokesperson Jody Donaldson said. "Just a traffic stop that resulted in a DUI."
"I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance," Crapo said in a statement. "I made a mistake for which I apologise to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me. I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. I will also undertake measures to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated."
A Crapo spokesperson declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Facing a minimum of $250 fine and licence revocation for a year, which is given to a first-time conviction for DUI, Crapo may find it difficult to return to his political life after the reputation-damaging incident.
