The French Polynesian President, Oscar Temaru, is to
return to New York to continue his efforts to see the territory re-inscribed on the UN decolonisation list.
The president announced his intention to meet members of the Non-Aligned Movement, which groups 120 countries, when he visited New York in December to discuss the issue.
Temaru, who has met representatives from several countries, has stated that good progress has been made and a re-inscription could be possible within months.

He also said the issue would be raised in Tahiti in January, when he is expected to receive the French overseas territories minister, Victorin Lurel, and Samoa's prime minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.
France strongly opposes French Polynesia's decolonisation bid, with Australia and New Zealand siding with Paris.
