Prestigious Cheltenham's New Year's Day horse racing meeting is cancelled because of a waterlogged track. 


On December 31, a clerk of the course Simon Claisse made an early decision and announced that due to heavy and saturated ground some areas of the track were unraceable. 

Heavy rain, which Britain has seen through most of December 2012, also led to the cancellation of a meeting at Warwick scheduled for the last day of the year.
