AMR board votes on US Airways merger
|
|
The AMR board meets to discuss merger plans between the parent of American Airlines and US Airways Group.
AMR, which initially planned to become an independent carrier and presented a stand-alone reorganization plan with lower costs and changes to its network and fleet, has been pressured by its creditors to seriously consider the merger.
On December 30, the Allied Pilots Associations (APA) voted 11-5 in favor of a proposed accord. The support of 10,000 APA member pilots is good news for those who believe the merger to be the answer to AMR's struggles, considering pilots are the most irreplaceable employees.
Should all parties reach an accord, a new joint labor contract will have be reached within 24 months of the merger.
